The Remove Unwanted Characters tool lets you strip any characters you do not want from your text in a single click. You can delete a hand-picked list of characters, or use a preset template for common tasks such as keeping only letters and numbers, dropping all digits, or clearing punctuation. Combined with the Replace and Collapse whitespace options, it turns messy text into clean, usable output without any manual editing.
1. Add your text: Type or paste it into the Input box, or upload a plain text file using the "Upload a file" option.
2. Choose what to remove: Either type the characters you want deleted in the "Characters to remove" box, tick one or more templates, or do both. Remember: every character you type is removed, so no separators or escape characters are needed.
3. Set the options: Tick "Replace instead of delete" to swap matched characters for a space instead of removing them, and "Collapse whitespace" to tidy up any leftover spacing.
4. Click Remove Unwanted Characters: The cleaned result appears in the Output box. Copy it or download it as a file.
1. Characters to remove (custom list). Type any characters in the box and every one of them is deleted from your text. No separators or escapes are required. For example, to remove the symbols @, # and *, just type @#*.
2. All non-alphanumeric template. Removes every character that is not a letter or a number. Input Hello, World! 123 becomes HelloWorld123. Use the Replace option below to keep spaces between words instead.
3. Letters and Numbers templates. "Letters (A-Z, a-z)" removes all English letters; "Numbers (0-9)" removes all digits. Input The 3 blind mice with the Numbers template becomes The blind mice.
4. Diacritics template. Removes letters carrying accents or other diacritical marks. Input café résumé becomes cafe resum. Plain letters are never affected.
5. Punctuation template. Removes standard punctuation such as . , ! ? : ; ’ “ ( ) [ ] and similar marks. Input Hello, world! becomes Hello world.
6. Special characters template. Removes symbols that are not letters, numbers, punctuation or whitespace, for example ©, ®, €, ° and math or currency symbols. Input Cost: €5 becomes Cost: 5.
7. Replace instead of delete. Instead of removing matched characters, a contiguous run of them becomes a single space. With "All non-alphanumeric", input Hello, World! becomes Hello World rather than HelloWorld, keeping the words separated.
8. Collapse whitespace. After the removal, repeated spaces and blank lines are squeezed to one and leading/trailing whitespace is trimmed. Input Keep the spaces tidy becomes Keep the spaces tidy.
