Overview

The "Glitch Text Generator" is a free browser-based tool that adds Unicode distortion marks to your text so it looks like it passed through a damaged terminal, corrupted display, or unstable video feed. The original letters stay in place, but small combining symbols appear above, through, and below them, giving the text a jittery, broken appearance.

You control every aspect of the effect: how many distortion marks appear per character, which zones (top, core, bottom) are damaged, and whether the glitch uses a chaotic mix of glyphs or a consistent single style. Everything runs locally in your browser, so your text never leaves your device.

What Does This Tool Do?

Normal text is clean and easy to read. This tool takes your ordinary text and overlays it with Unicode combining marks - the same characters used for accents and diacritics in written languages. By stacking many of these marks on each letter, the text takes on a corrupted, noisy appearance that resembles a glitching screen.

For example, the word "error" can turn into something like e̷r̴r̶o̸r̅ with light settings, or into a heavily distorted wall of marks with aggressive settings. The effect is purely visual - the underlying text content remains the same, so you can still copy-paste it into social media bios, Discord usernames, or any platform that supports Unicode.

Features & Options

Input & Output: Type or paste your text on the left; the glitched result appears on the right, ready to copy or download.

Intensity presets (Light / Medium / Heavy): One click sets a sensible minimum/maximum distortion range. Light (1-2) gives a subtle flicker; Medium (2-5) creates a visible corrupted look; Heavy (5-12) pushes the text into full breakdown.

Distortion range (Min / Max): The number of combining marks added to each character is chosen at random between these two values. Set Min equal to Max for a consistent count, or spread them for irregular chaos.

Glitch zones (Top / Core / Bottom): Choose where the distortion appears. The top zone corrupts above the characters, the core zone strikes through the center, and the bottom zone corrupts below. Enable a single zone for a clean stylistic effect, or combine several for heavy damage.

Max Variety vs Single Style: Max Variety mixes many different glitch glyphs for each character, creating an irregular, chaotic look. Single Style uses one glyph type per character for a more consistent, patterned distortion.

Ignore spaces / newlines / punctuation: Keep these characters clean so the surrounding structure and readability survive the glitch. Spaces and newlines are ignored by default.

Extended mark range: Adds the larger Unicode combining-marks block for an even more extreme distortion effect (rendering varies more between devices).

Live mode: When on, the output updates automatically as you type or change any option - no need to press Generate.

Generate / Clear / Copy / Download: "Generate Glitch" re-rolls a fresh glitched version; "Clear Everything" resets the fields; "Copy" and "Download" save the result.

FAQs

FAQ 1: Will glitch text work on all platforms?
Answer: Most platforms that support Unicode - including Discord, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, and Reddit - will display glitch text. However, the exact rendering depends on your device and operating system. Some platforms may also enforce character limits, and glitch text uses many more characters than plain text due to the combining marks.

FAQ 2: What is the difference between glitch text and Zalgo text?
Answer: Both use the same underlying technique of stacking Unicode combining marks, but glitch text is styled to evoke a damaged display or corrupted terminal - typically lighter, more controlled, and focused on the "broken technology" aesthetic. Zalgo text leans into a horror/creepy aesthetic with heavier, more overwhelming marks.

FAQ 3: Can I keep my text readable?
Answer: Yes. Use the Light preset with only one zone enabled, and set a low Min/Max range (1-2). Enabling "Ignore punctuation" and "Ignore spaces" also helps preserve readability while adding a subtle corrupted look.

FAQ 4: Why does the same text look different each time?
Answer: The distortion marks are chosen at random, so every "Generate" produces a new variation. This randomness is what gives glitch text its unpredictable, broken feel. Click Generate again for a fresh version.

FAQ 5: Is my text private?
Answer: Yes. The tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded to or stored on any server.

FAQ 6: Why does it look different on my phone?
Answer: Each operating system and browser renders stacking combining marks differently. iOS, Android, and desktop browsers may show slightly different heights, overflow, and legibility. This variability is inherent to how Unicode combining characters work across platforms.
