Overview:

Our free Upside Down Text Generator converts any text into its upside-down equivalent using Unicode characters. It works by mapping each letter, number, and punctuation mark to a visually similar upside-down Unicode symbol and reversing the order of the characters.

Use the Backward setting to flip the whole string and produce the true upside-down effect, or tick Line-by-line Mode to flip each line separately while keeping the line order. The conversion is bidirectional, i.e. you can paste upside-down text and flip it back to the original. Everything runs in your browser; no text is sent to any server.

For example, the input Hello World! becomes ¡plɹoW ollǝH when flipped.

How to Use

1. Enter your text: Type or paste it into the Input textarea, click “Load an example”, or upload a text file from your device.

2. Choose a mode: Tick the Backward checkbox to flip the whole string and produce the true upside-down effect. Tick Line-by-line Mode to flip each line separately while keeping the line order. You can combine both settings.

3. Flip: Click the “Flip Text” button. The upside-down text appears in the Output textarea.

4. Save the result: Use the Copy link or the Download link above the textareas to keep the flipped text.

Features

Backward: Tick the Backward checkbox to flip the whole string, including reversing the line order. This produces the true upside-down effect. For example:

Normal: Hello World!
Flipped: ¡plɹoW ollǝH

Line-by-line Mode: Tick the Line-by-line Mode checkbox to flip each line separately while keeping the lines in their original order. For example:

Input:
Line one
Line two

Flipped line-by-line:
ǝuo ǝuı⹃
oʍʇ ǝuı⹃

Both settings: You can tick both checkboxes at the same time to combine the two behaviors. The effect is always reversible, just paste upside-down text and flip it back to normal.

Load an example: Adds a short sample text to the Input textarea so you can try the tool instantly.

Upload a file: Loads the content of a plain text file from your device into the Input textarea.

Copy result: Click the Copy link above the textareas to copy the flipped text to your clipboard.

Download: Saves the flipped text as a .txt file on your device.

Clear the text: Empties both the Input and Output textareas so you can start over.

FAQs

FAQ 1: What is upside-down text?
Answer: Upside-down text uses Unicode characters that visually resemble regular letters but are rotated or inverted. By mapping each character and reversing the string, the result looks like the original text turned upside down.

FAQ 2: Can I convert upside-down text back to normal?
Answer: Yes. The conversion is bidirectional. Paste the upside-down text into the Input textarea and click “Flip Text” to recover the original text.

FAQ 3: What does the Backward setting do?
Answer: Backward flips the whole string including reversing the line order, producing the true upside-down effect. Without it, each character is mapped but the string is still reversed. Tick it along with Line-by-line Mode to combine both behaviors.

FAQ 4: What does Line-by-line Mode do?
Answer: Line-by-line Mode flips each line separately while keeping the lines in their original order. Without it (default), the entire text is flipped as a single block, which also reverses the line order.

FAQ 5: Does it support numbers and punctuation?
Answer: Yes. Digits, commas, periods, question marks, exclamation marks, parentheses, brackets, and many other symbols are supported. Characters without a Unicode equivalent are kept unchanged.

FAQ 6: Is my text saved on a server?
Answer: No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser. No text is transmitted to or stored on any server.

FAQ 7: Where can I use upside-down text?
Answer: Anywhere that supports Unicode text - social media posts, messaging apps, email signatures, usernames, and more.
