Overview

The "Randomize Words in Text" tool is a free utility that takes your text and randomly reorders the words inside it. Every click produces a fresh arrangement - so "A gentle breeze moves the tall grass." might come out as "grass the moves A breeze gentle tall." one time and something different the next. The words themselves are never changed; only their order.

You control the scope of the shuffle. Mix every word across the whole text, or keep each line, sentence or paragraph intact and shuffle only the words within it. Bundle words into pairs or triplets and move those bundles as single units, choose the separator that sits between words inside a group and between groups, drop repeated words, and decide whether the words keep their original case or are flattened.

The tool is written in PHP, HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript. Every shuffle runs locally in your browser, so your text never leaves your device, nothing is uploaded or stored, and it works on any device with a modern browser - free, with no account needed.

How to Use This Tool

1. Add your text: Paste or type it into the "Input" field, click "Upload a file" to load a text file, or use "Load an example" to try a sample.

2. Choose the scope: Pick whether to shuffle the whole text or the words on each line, sentence or paragraph on their own.

3. Set the options: Adjust the group length and the two separators, and decide whether to delete duplicate words and how to handle the letter case.

4. Randomize: Click "Randomize Words". The shuffled result appears in the "Output" field. Click "Randomize Again" for another fresh arrangement, then copy or download the result, or use "Clear & Reset" to start over.

Examples

Every example below loads its own text and options - click "Try it" to generate the randomized version in the "Output" field. (The output is randomized each time, so it will look a little different every click.)

1. Shuffle the whole text

Rearrange every word across the entire text, keeping each word exactly as it is.

Input
A gentle breeze moves the tall grass.

2. Mix words on each line

Shuffle each line on its own, remove the repeated names, and separate the unique ones with a comma.

Input
Ruby Sapphire Sapphire Topaz Amber Coral Pearl Jade Jade Onyx
Opal Quartz Citrine Opal Agate Garnet Garnet Topaz Turquoise
Peridot Moonstone Onyx Amethyst Coral Ruby Citrine Pearl
Jade Sapphire Amber Topaz Agate Quartz Moonstone Opal

3. Shuffle pairs of words per sentence

Bundle words into pairs, move the pairs within each sentence, and print everything in lowercase.

Input
The river winds through the green valley. Birds gather above the quiet pines. The morning light warms the wet stone.

4. Shuffle words in a paragraph

Mix the words inside the paragraph, keeping the paragraph together and printing everything in lowercase.

Input
Gravity is the force that pulls all matter together. It keeps planets in orbit around stars, stars in orbit around galaxies, and galaxies in clusters.

5. Shuffle word triplets

Bundle words into groups of three, glue each triplet with a dot, and shuffle the triplets within each sentence.

Input
The moon glows above the still lake. The stars scatter across the dark sky. The cool air drifts through the open door.

6. Keep the sentence structure

Shuffle the words inside each sentence while keeping the sentence boundaries and their punctuation in place.

Input
Read the whole story. Find the hidden clue. Solve the final puzzle.

Features & Options

Input & Output: The "Input" textarea is where you type, paste or upload your text. The randomized result is shown in the "Output" textarea, ready to copy or download.

Randomize scope: Sets what gets shuffled on its own. Words in Text mixes every word across the whole input; Words on Lines, Words in Sentences and Words in Paragraphs keep those blocks separate while mixing the words inside each one.

Group length (default: 1): The number of words that travel together as one unit. With 1, single words change places. With 2, words pair up and the pairs move as units; with 3 they move in triplets.

Separator in groups: The symbol placed between the words inside one group. Leave it empty to glue them tightly together.

Separator between groups: The symbol placed between individual words or groups, so you can use a space, a comma, or nothing at all.

Delete duplicate words: Drops any repeated word or group so only unique ones remain in the shuffled output.

Letter case - Keep original case: Each word keeps the case it had, so a capital travels with its word. Choose Output lowercase words or Output uppercase words to force one consistent case instead.

Load an example: Loads a sample sentence into the "Input" field and resets the options to their defaults so you can test the tool instantly.

Upload a file: Reads a text file from your device into the "Input" field - handy for shuffling saved text.

Copy & Download: "Copy" puts the output on your clipboard for pasting elsewhere; "Download" saves it as a text file.

Randomize Words & Randomize Again: The main button produces one random arrangement of your text. "Randomize Again" keeps your input and options and simply produces another fresh one.

Clear & Reset: Clears both textareas and resets the tool to its initial state.

When to Use This Tool?

Word games and puzzles: Take a sentence or quote and scramble the words so a player has to put them back in order. Words in Text mode gives the most thorough mix.

Hiding a message: Keep the words intact but reorder them so the meaning is no longer obvious at a glance. Bundle the words into pairs or triplets with Group length for a stronger effect.

Creative variation: Generate several arrangements of a slogan, title or short phrase with Randomize Again and compare which word order reads best.

Testing layout and rendering: Produce different word orders of a similar length to your real copy so you can check how headlines or paragraphs wrap and overflow.

Deduping a list: Use Words on Lines with Delete duplicate words to remove repeated items from each line while rearranging what is left.

Anonymising small snippets: Scramble a short note or code so it is not obvious to someone reading over your shoulder. This is visual obfuscation only - it is not encryption, so do not use it to protect anything sensitive.

FAQs

FAQ 1: Why do I get a different result every time I click?
Answer: Because the shuffle is truly random. Each click picks a fresh ordering of the same words, so the output changes unless there is only one way to arrange them (for example a single word or a single group).

FAQ 2: Are my words changed?
Answer: No. The tool only reorders the words; it never edits their spelling. Each word travels with any punctuation attached to it, and only the case changes if you choose a lowercase or uppercase option.

FAQ 3: What does "group length" do?
Answer: It sets how many words move together as one unit. With 1, single words change places. With 2, words pair up and the pairs are shuffled, so a six-word sentence produces three pairs that get reordered.

FAQ 4: What are the two separator options?
Answer: "Separator in groups" sits between the words inside one group, and "Separator between groups" sits between the groups or words. You can leave either empty to glue text together, or use a comma or any other symbol.

FAQ 5: Why did my output get shorter with "Delete duplicate words"?
Answer: That option removes any word or group that repeats, so only unique items remain. If your text had repeats, the output contains fewer words than the original.

FAQ 6: Is my text private?
Answer: Yes. The tool runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded to or stored on our servers.
